Dear Scouting Families and Leaders:

At a recent Executive Board Meeting of the Michigan Crossroads Council (MCC), volunteer board members representing the state-wide Council and its four Field Service Councils voted and approved the restructuring and relocation of the Cub Scout summer camp programs previously conducted at Camp Munhacke and Rota-Kiwan Scout Reservation. Beginning in 2020, these Cub Scout summer camp programs will be conducted primarily at Camp Teetonkah. In addition, the Council is examining providing additional Cub Scout summer camp opportunities at other camps located in Southwestern Michigan.

These decisions were based on a thorough and extensive multi-year review of all MCC camps across the state, which included review and analyses of historical and camping revenues and costs, camping attendance, and the operational and capital reinvestment requirements needed to make these camps sustainable in the future.

As a result, Camp Munhacke (located in Gregory, MI) and Rota-Kiwan Scout Reservation (located in Kalamazoo, MI) will cease weekend and summer camp operations including day camp and resident camp beginning January 1, 2020. Camp Teetonkah (located Jackson, MI) will host Cub Scout summer camping programs beginning in 2020 in addition to its weekend camp use and activities. In connection with the expansion of activities at Camp Teetonkah, the MCC will be supporting strategic improvements and enhancements to Camp Teetonkah.

The Southern Shores Field Service Council Program team is committed to continuing to provide quality programs, activities and training courses (including NYLT and Wood Badge) at the newly developed and enhanced Camp Teetonkah property. In addition, the SSSFC will be conducting fireside chats over the coming weeks with volunteers and district leadership teams to insure a smooth transition.

The MCC and its Executive Board is committed to providing quality Scouting and camping programs to serve all youth and families throughout Michigan and believes that these changes will help fulfill that commitment.
