Scouting in Monroe County and the Community of Flat Rock is served by the Running Waters District. The district consists of 435 youth members in 34 Units. The youth in these units have earned over 1,160 merit badges, given back over 4,483 hours of community service, and had 25 Scouts earn the rank of Eagle as well as 36 months of continuous membership growth.

Honoring Citizen:  Michael Gaynier

MICHAEL GAYNIER is a lifelong Monroe resident.  He and his wife Wendy (Taylor) have been married for 46 years and have two children.  Matt (Joanna), Lindsay (Ross) and three grandchildren: Brayden, Michael and Madison Jo.

Michael began his business career in 1977 as a loan officer here in Monroe for the former PCA, an Ag bank servicing SE MI.  He rose to the level of Branch Manager of three locations in SE MI before resigning in 1997 to become a partner in Spartan Insurance Agency, LLC.  Today the agency is one of the largest independently owned crop insurance agencies in the country.

Over his lifetime of community involvement, he has always tried to emphasize the value of “Paying it forward”. No matter how small or large the effort may seem at the time, even a smile or encouraging comment can go a long way in making a difference in someone’s day or maybe even their life.

He and Wendy love Monroe as their HOMETOWN and are avid supporters of Gabby’s Grief Center, United Way, Salvation Army, and the YMCA.  Some of Michael’s favorite memories are of the projects he was involved with in their infancy, such as the BED MINISTRY, the MHS AIM PROGRAM, and the HEART of the BADGE scholarship program.

Michael likes to do his best work behind the scenes but is truly honored for this nomination and recognition as the Running Waters District 2025 Distinguished Citizen!
