Parkwyn Village is a development of 38 mid-century modern houses located on a 47-acre tract that (now) lies in the southwest corner of the City of Kalamazoo.  Frank Lloyd Wright prepared the site plan for Parkwyn Village in 1947, and over time he designed four of the built houses (five, if you count the one he later disowned).  Other prominent architects designed several of the other houses in a similar “Wrightian” style.  For its unique historical and architectural significance, Parkwyn Village was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022.

The Parkwyn Village House Tour on October 7^th will consist of five elements:  First, a brief introduction and history of Parkwyn Village. Then the participants, having been divided into four groups of approximately 15-20 people, will separately tour (1) the Wright-designed Brown House (1951), both inside and outside; (2) the Wright-designed McCartney House (1951-56), both inside and outside; (3) the Norman Carver-designed Spradling House (1958), both inside and outside; and (4) a walking tour of the rest of Parkwyn Village, including outside or street views of the other Wright and Carver designed houses.  Each of the stops on the house tour will last about 30 minutes and will feature knowledgeable docents (including the current owners) who will provide information about the house and be available to answer questions. 

The house tour will conclude with cider and donuts at a location in Parkwyn Village to be announced (in part determined by the weather) at which participants can mingle with other participants and with some of the Parkwyn Villagers and Scouting volunteers.
