“The most worth-while thing is to try to put happiness into the lives of others.”
Robert Baden-Powell, founder of Scouting

Doing service projects together is one way that Scouts keep their promise “to help other people.” While a Scout should do their best to help other people every day, a group service project is a bigger way to help people. While you’re giving service, you’re learning to work together with others to do something that’s good for your community.

Generally, service projects are done at the unit or district level. Below is a list of statewide service opportunities that your unit can engage in!

9/11 COMMUNITY DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND SCOUT SALUTE

The 9-11 annual event is an opportunity for families and communities to come together to remember and honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, as well as to thank and honor our Military, Veterans, Police, Fire, and EMS personnel.  Over the past few years, additional locations throughout the state have been added as the event has grown.

The 9-11 Community Day of Remembrance and Scout Salute is open to all members of the community, religious organizations, educational institutions, social and civic organizations, businesses, and local, state, and national agencies, organizations and associations.

I LOVE MY CAMP DAYS

We have five beautiful camp properties in Michigan Crossroads Council, and they all take a lot of work to keep clean and safe for our Scouts. I Love My Camp Days are when we invite parents, volunteers, and Scouts to come help us clean, refresh and repair our properties for the day.

Projects will be assigned the day of, and materials will be provided.

Continental breakfast, bag lunch provided, and patch provided at no cost. Registration is required.

SCOUTING FOR FOOD

Scouting for Food is an ongoing annual program of Scouting America, which began in 1985. The program involves collecting non-perishable food for local food banks and pantries. It is organized at the local level throughout the United States. Scouting for Food is a service project rooted in the very foundation of the Scouting movement and its dedication to implement the Scout Slogan, “Do a Good Turn Daily.”

Scouts across our council collected over 81,000 lbs. in 2023.  Help us make an even bigger impact in 2024.  The 2024 drive will take place on Saturday, November 2nd (Bag/Flyer distribution) and Saturday, November 9th (Food Collection).  There is no cost to participate.  Your Scouting unit can find more information and sign up for this worthwhile service project at https://michiganscouting.org/scoutingforfood/
