To MIC Participants, Leaders and Staff,

The Michigan International Camporee Planning Committee has come to the difficult decision that the next MIC should be held in 2022 instead of the previously promoted 2020. Planning an event of the size and nature of a MIC brings with it plenty of challenges. In addition to a change in host camps and a transition in some key leadership roles, there has been a change in national BSA policy regarding hosting scouts in private homes. This change in policy has eliminated the traditional home stay week that has previously been part of the MIC experience and led the Planning Committee to restructure what the overall MIC experience will be going forward. It will also result in some changes to the host unit responsibilities.

The Michigan International Camporee Planning Committee is fully committed to providing the best possible experience for both our international visitors as well as our national units and hosts. With that goal in mind, we believe that changing the date will give us the best possible opportunity to deliver
on that goal. The extra time will allow the committee to fully prepare for the changes in the schedule and the logistics of restructuring the MIC model. We feel very confident that MIC 2022 will be one of the best ever and still be the outstanding experience it has always been.

We felt it was important to get this information out to everyone as quickly as possible but there will definitely be much more information to follow. As more decisions are made and more details become available, more communication will be shared. We will update our website and Facebook page with the most up to date information we have available so please continue to visit the sites regularly to stay in the know. We will also be suspending the collection of applications and interest forms on the website while we rework the information and the fact that the event is now over three and a half years away. Rest assured that if you have previously filled out an interest form, application or have attended a past MIC that we have your information and will contact
you when we turn the application system on for MIC 2022.

Past and interested host units will be receiving additional follow up from Chuck Thibodeau after the holidays as we’ll need your help to re-shape the first week of the MIC experience. Planning meetings will continue on the previously established schedule and I encourage anyone that has input on the restructuring to attend in person or via RingCentral. Thank you everyone for your dedication to the past and future successes of the Michigan International Camporee!
