YOUTH CAMPING / TRAINING COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarships are due April 1, 2024

Youth Camping / Training Course Scholarships

These scholarships (camperships) are available for:

  • MCC Summer camp (Day Camp, Cub Scout Overnight Camp, Webelos Overnight Camp, Scouts BSA Resident Camp, Trail to Eagle Camp, etc.)
  • MCC High Adventure (adventures through Cole Canoe Base, weeklong horse camps at D-Bar-A)
  • Advanced Training such as NYLT and Powder Horn – any official Council, District, Area or National Training Conference

To be eligible, a Youth must be registered within the Michigan Crossroads Council and in good standing for at least 30 days prior to completing an application.

Scholarships will be awarded based on need and funds available.  Maximum award is limited to half of the total cost of the program.  Scholarships cannot be combined with other discounts.

Youth who are attending more than one camp opportunity in a given summer may apply for more than one scholarship.

We urge your assistance in applying for scholarships for youth who could not attend camp without financial assistance.

In keeping with the philosophy of “pay your own way,” each youth should pay a portion of the fee. Scholarships are awarded based primarily on need. The more information the scholarship committee has about the Scout’s particular need, the better. The Council also reserves the right to consider the unit’s participation in Council administered product sales as demonstrating a concerted effort to raise these funds. The family and unit should also contribute to the cost of the camp experience. Scholarships awarded will not exceed 50% of the event fee.

Applying for scholarship aid must be done by APRIL 1st to allow time for review and response. If approved, the scholarship amount will be sent to the camp or to the National Conference when the registration of the individual is confirmed. Fees will be credited as camp payment in the Scout’s name within the Michigan Crossroads Council Summer Camp Reservations portion of its website. The scholarship is to a specific individual and is not transferable to other youth.

NOTE: The period for applying for scholarship aid is January 1 to May 30.

  1. Apply separately for each Scout needing assistance. All information requested on the application is required when applying.
  2. Assistance will be considered based on need and the youth’s unit’s support of the mission of the Michigan Crossroads Council including participation in the Popcorn Sale.
  3. All requests must be submitted by APRIL 1st. All scholarship applications submitted on time will be considered based on the financial need of the Scout in relation to the other applications received and available funds. Any scholarship applications received after April 1, will only be considered if there are funds remaining.
    1.  The way the process will work is:
      • On January 1, the Scholarship Application process will open for Scouts BSA and Cub Scouts.
      • On April 1, at 12:00 pm (noon), the request form will be turned off. All the data that has been submitted will be downloaded and distributed to the volunteer Scholarship Allocation team. The form will be turned on April 2. This way, there is a clear break (by date) in the requests.
      • April 1: Phase 1 closes, data is downloaded and distributed to the Scholarship Allocation team. Michigan Crossroads Council will determine allocations and communicate with the participant and unit.
      • May 31: Phase 2 closes, data is downloaded and distributed to the Scholarship Allocation team. Michigan Crossroads Council will determine allocations and communicate with participant and unit
  4. Your request will be reviewed by the volunteer Scholarship Allocation committee. Scholarship awards and information is confidential and will not be shared outside of the scholarship committee.
  5. After review, notification will be done by the volunteer Scholarship Allocation committee to the Scholarship Recipient’s family and Unit Leadership including the assistance decision.
  6. Assistance funds will be credited to each Scout when they attend the event for which they applied. Funds are only usable by the individual for whom the assistance was granted.
  7. Completeness of the information when applying will help determine campership allocations.
  8. Scouts are only eligible to receive one form of financial assistance – ex: Sibling Discounts and Camp Scholarships may not be combined.

Thrifty:  A Scout works to pay his own way and help others. He saves for the future.  He protects and conserves natural resources. He carefully uses time and property.
