Introduction: There are over 130 merit badges! Any Boy Scout may earn a merit badge at any time. Merit badges improve a Scout by helping him to discover more about sports, crafts, sciences, trades, business and careers that might interest him. A Boy Scout can pick any subject he wants, but should always talk to his Scoutmaster first. Click any badge to learn more!

Merit Badge Counselors: Merit badge counselors are specialists in their fields and are able to pass on their knowledge and passion to Scouts through a series of pre-defined requirements every Scout must accomplish to earn that merit badge. merit badge counselors must fill out an adult registration form and the Merit Badge Counselor Application and submit it to your local Scout office.

The Essentials of Merit Badge Counseling

This PowerPoint presentation with speaker notes covers the required procedures for merit badge counseling, clarifies the role of counselors in the BSA advancement program, and discusses the appropriate approaches to use in working with Scouts. It is intended as an instructor-led presentation to counselors of any experience level and takes 60 to 90 minutes to complete.
